The Great Schism

The Great Schism explains how centuries of cultural, linguistic, political, and theological tensions (especially over papal authority and the filioque) led to the 1054 split between the Eastern and Western Churches, later deepened by the Crusades but met in modern times with gestures toward reconciliation.
