The Ohio and Erie Canal

The Ohio and Erie Canal, begun in 1827, reshaped Ohio’s economy and towns by linking Akron to Cleveland, driving industry and rough canal communities, declining after the 1913 flood, and later being preserved as a national park with major cultural and economic impact.
