Welcome to the Privacy Policy for Summiz. Summiz is operated by Alberto Blanco Garcés. This document explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use our app.

Consent

By using Summiz, you consent to the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

• Account Information: Your email address, first name, and the account identifier assigned by our sign-in provider.
• Billing Information: If you subscribe, your plan, subscription status, and a Stripe customer reference. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers.
• Your Library: The summaries, quick takes, and notes you generate or save, and when you saved them.
• Content You Submit: The YouTube links you ask us to process.
• Usage Data: Details of your interactions with the app, such as pages visited, features and tools used, and when and how long each request took.
• Device Information: Your IP address, the approximate location derived from it (city and country), and your browser or client's user agent.

Using Summiz from AI Assistants

Summiz runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Codex, and Claude can connect to.

• Without a Summiz account: For each connection and each tool call we record the assistant's client name and version, the IP address, approximate location, and user agent of the request, the tool used, the video it concerned, and the time and duration of the call. To apply the daily free allowance, we keep for 24 hours a hash derived from an anonymous identifier the assistant provides for you (for ChatGPT, one assigned by OpenAI) or, when there isn't one, from the IP address and user agent. When the allowance is exceeded, we also record that request's IP address and user agent.
• With your Summiz account connected: The assistant signs you in through OAuth. We receive your email address, whether it is verified, and an identifier for the assistant's OAuth client. We link the tool calls you make to your account, save the content you generate to your library, and return items from your library when you ask the assistant for them.
• What our tools return: Video and summary content: titles, channel names, video descriptions, durations, thumbnails, summaries, quick takes, notes, clickbait reports, and links to Summiz and YouTube. When you ask for your library, they return your saved items with those same fields. Our tools never return your email address, name, account identifiers, or IP address, or any information about other users.
• What we do not keep: Your access token, your conversation with the assistant, or the text of your searches. Searches are sent to the YouTube Data API to find videos.
• The assistant's provider: What our tools return is sent to the assistant you use, and its provider's privacy policy governs how it is handled there (for example, OpenAI's for ChatGPT and Codex).

The Shared Catalog

Summaries generated on Summiz form a shared catalog. When you submit a video, its title, channel, and the content generated from it can be found and read by other users. We never show who requested it.

How We Use Your Information

• To Provide and Improve Our Services: We use your data to operate and enhance the app's functionality.
• Limits and Abuse Prevention: To apply usage limits, keep the service secure, and investigate errors.
• Communication: To send you updates, notifications, and promotional messages.
• Analytics: To understand user behavior and improve user experience.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your information. We share it only with the providers that run Summiz for us:

• Infrastructure: Vercel (hosting and web analytics), Neon (database), and Upstash (caching and rate limiting).
• Accounts, Payments, and Email: Clerk (sign-in), Stripe (payments), and Resend (email delivery).
• YouTube Data API: Receives search terms and video identifiers to find videos and their details.
• AI Model Providers: Receive video transcripts and metadata to generate summaries, and never your personal information.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to legal requests.

Data Storage and Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

Google User Data

Our app accesses and uses Google user data in the following ways:

• Access: With your consent, we access Google user data to read your email, profile information, and openid for authentication purposes.
• Use: This data is used exclusively for Authentication and Authorization services.
• Storage: Google user data is stored securely on our servers and is protected using industry-standard encryption.
• Sharing: We do not share Google user data with third parties without your explicit consent.

Data Retention

• Account Information and Library: Kept until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your profile and your library.
• Usage Records: Records of connections, tool calls, and requests are kept for up to 24 months.
• Temporary Keys: Rate-limit and session keys expire after 1 to 24 hours.
• Shared Catalog: Generated summaries stay in the catalog and are not linked to you.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information. Contact us at support@summiz.ai to exercise these rights.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and, where appropriate, via email or other notification methods.
